HONOR NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH THE SEATTLE SYMPHONY AND BENAROYA HALL

THE FESTIVITIES CONTINUE BEYOND THE MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION WITH HISPANIC COMPOSERS AND ARTISTS FEATURED THROUGHOUT THE SEASON

Seattle, WA – The Seattle Symphony and Benaroya Hall celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month this year, offering several exciting performances that bring vibrant rhythms, rich melodies and the cultural tapestry of Hispanic composers, performers and artists to life. National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15 — experience captivating performances on Benaroya Hall’s stages that honor the diversity and creativity of Hispanic music and traditions throughout the celebratory month, and beyond.

Kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month and the 2024/2025 Seattle Symphony season on September 14 is the Opening Night Concert: Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, which features works by Puerto-Rican composer Angélica Negrón and the late Spanish Catalan composer Eduard Toldrà. Then, on October 18 & 19, is Benaroya Hall Presents Ser.Rana, a modern flamenco dance show created, choreographed and performed by Sonia Franco, an artist from Madrid, Spain.

Also on October 19, Día de Muertos — the first Family Concert of the season — returns with a fun-filled performance featuring vibrant Mexican music and composers, including José Pablo Moncayo and Gabriela Ortiz. Prior to the concert, attendees are invited to mark the Day of the Dead with colorful festivities and decorated ofrendas dedicated to loved ones in the Samuel & Althea Stroum Grand Lobby. This program is designed for families with children ages 6–12. Learn more about the Seattle Symphony’s Día de Muertos Family Concert in this video

The rich melodies and musical memories continue on November 3 with Disney Pixar’s Coco Live-to-Film Concert on Tour, featuring a screening of the complete film with award-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s musical score performed by the 20-member Orquesta Folclórica Nacional de México. In addition to the original score by Giacchino, Coco also features the Oscar-winning song “Remember Me” by songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco and co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina

Hispanic artists continue to be celebrated and highlighted as we journey farther into the season. Audiences can plan for one such program, Augustin Hadelich Plays Prokofiev (April 24 & 26). In addition to Sergei Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto, the program incorporates the rhythms of Mexico and Argentina with Silvestre Revueltas’ The Night of the Maya and Alberto Ginastera’s Malambo. Originally composed for a 1939 film score, Revueltas created an orchestral suite for his Night of the Maya that pulsates with a huge percussion section and traditional instruments joining the sounds of a full orchestra. Audiences will see the stage set like never before, with percussion instruments lined across its length, filling the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium with booming sound. Malambo from Ginastera’s Estancia ballet illustrates the infectious rhythms of Argentinian gaucho dance traditions
