SEATTLE SYMPHONY TO EXTEND SUSPENSION OF CONCERT PRODUCTION THROUGH JANUARY 8, 2021
SEATTLE SYMPHONY LIVE CONTINUES TO OFFER ON-DEMAND CONTENT WHILE LIVESTREAM BROADCASTS REMAIN ON HOLD
Seattle, WA —The Seattle Symphony announced earlier this month that it would halt on-site rehearsals and performances through mid-December to support the state’s efforts to mitigate COVID transmission. With respect to the extension of current restrictions announced by Governor Inslee and in solidarity with the Seattle community as coronavirus cases continue to rise, the Seattle Symphony will extend its suspension of concert production through January 8, 2021.
Family Concert: Air will air on Seattle Symphony Live on December 19, as scheduled. J.S. Bach Brandenburg Concert No. 5, which was originally planned for December 17 and the Essential Series concert Grieves with the Seattle Symphony that was scheduled for January 8 are canceled. The Seattle Symphony looks forward to welcoming guest artists to the stage again once circumstances allow and thanks affected guest artists for their understanding.
A selection of on-demand content will be offered on Seattle Symphony Live while new performances cannot take place. On-demand content features new educational programs, rebroadcasts of season highlights, as well as special broadcasts of two performances conducted by Music Director Thomas Dausgaard from the 2019–2020 season — R. Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra and Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy. Each concert will be viewable on the streaming service for a full week following the airdate provided below; educational concerts remain viewable for the duration of the season. The status of concert broadcasts during the affected period is as follows:
